Marbella, and the Costa del Sol in general, is an incredibly popular place for immigrants. There are large expat communities of English, Scandinavian, Dutch, and German, up and down the coast. It is not difficult to see why, with the endless stretches of beautiful beaches, the guaranteed sunshine (around 320 days per annum), the amazing food, and the relaxed, carefree way of life.
Many thought that Brexit would dent the interest from British buyers, but the resurge in the property market throughout 2021/2022 and continuing right up to the present day, has added to the influx of new homeowners from all over Northern Europe.
Plenty have chosen to make Spain their permanent home, (rather than those that choose to have a second home in the sun to escape to during the long cold winter months) and it has become a base to work from, with online jobs and telecommuting having become increasingly popular.
For those with children, schooling is an important factor when considering making the life-changing decision to move country. Marbella and the surrounding areas of Estepona, San Pedro, Benahavis, Cabopino, Banalmadena, Fuengirola, are home to some of the best international schools in Spain. Offering lessons in English, Swedish, Danish, and a first-class education.

Laude San Pedro International College
Laude is an international school for students from 3 to 18 years old, located in Marbella, and considered by El Mundo in 2020 as one of the 30 best international schools in Spain. They follow the British national curriculum in primary and secondary education; they also offer the possibility of taking ESO and Spanish baccalaureate with up to 65% of lessons in English.
The British International School of Marbella
The British International School of Marbella (BISM) offers contemporary British international education from early years through to secondary. BISM is part of The British Schools Foundation (BSF), which is one of the world’s leading founders of quality British international schools. Since 2004, BSF has established over a dozen top international schools around the world.
Swans International School
An international school based in the Nagüeles district of Marbella, that has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Teaching children from foundation classes (3 years of age) right through to sixth form (16-18 years). Renowned for its excellent exam results and it’s commitment to pastoral care.
Aloha College Marbella
One of the most well-established schools in Southern Spain, Aloha College Marbella is a not-for-profit educational foundation which has been offering a British International education for over 40 years. Starting from early years to sixth form (ages 3 to 18).
Calpe School
Situated in Marbella (San Pedro) and established for over 48 years, the school has a proven record of preparing children to the highest academic standards in a safe and caring environment. Offering a primary school education starting from as young as 2 years old, through to 11 years.
The International School Estepona
West Marbella’s leading primary school and nursery, situated in El Paraiso, Estepona, in the heart of “The New Golden Mile” on the Costa del Sol. The school was founded in 2004 and follows the British national curriculum to ensure a seamless transition to and from any other British school, whether in the UK or overseas.
Saint George’s School, Marbella
St. George’s School was founded in 1986, situated in Cortijo Blanco, San Pedro de Alcántara. Providing a top-quality British style education for children aged 3 to 8 years. The school is jointly recognised by the British Department of Education and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
The American College in Spain
Offering an American education fully recognised by the USA. Starting at middle school level you can continue through High School, do the first 2 years of university here in Marbella, and then transfer to the US (or any other US university in the world), to obtain a degree from an accredited American university.
Svenska Skolan Marbella (Swedish School Marbella)
The Swedish School Marbella has been open since 2003. It is open to students of all nationalities and backgrounds from 3 to 18 years of age. The school offers a bilingual curriculum based on the Swedish curriculum, supplemented with Spanish and international content.

Bifrostskolen (The Danish School of Fuengirola)
Located in Fuengirola, Bifrostskolen the Danish School welcomes children aged 6-15, and has students from Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Mijas areas.
Den Norske Skolen (The Norwegian School of Benalmadena)
Den Norske Skolen is in Aroyo de la Miel, in the Benalmadena Municipality. They offer a primary school, Year 1-10 classes, as well as the first year of high school. The school cooperates with the Swedish school in Fuengirola for the completion of upper secondary school.
Colegio Finlandés (The Finnish school in Costa del Sol)
Running since 1991 and situated in Los Pacos, Fuengirola is the private Finnish school. Which consists of a preschool, a comprehensive and an upper secondary school.
Deutsche Schule - Colegio Aleman Juan Hoffman (The German School of Elviria)
Based in La Mairena of Elviria, Marbella East. The Colegio Aleman Juan Hoffman is an independent private school that is approved by the Spanish Ministry of Education and recognised by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education of the Federal States of Germany (KMK) as an official overseas school.
